Music at Butler: Butler University Wind Ensemble
Eidson-Duckwall Recital Hall
No Tickets Required
The Butler University Wind Ensemble is joined by a roster of guest artists for this performance, marking the culmination of the annual conducting workshop as well as the world premiere of a new work by Assistant Professor of Music and Brass Area Coordinator, Zach Cooper. We welcome to the podium Dr. Lauren Reynolds, Director of Concert Bands at the University of Delaware School of Music. Dr. Reynolds previously served as President of the Eastern Division of the College Band Directors National Association, has led international tours with ensembles from the University of Delaware, and is in demand nationally as a conductor and clinician. The concert repertoire is centered on works connected to Dr. Reynolds’s professional activities, and we are honored to benefit from her expertise as she leads AMEN! by Carlos Simon and March, Op. 99 by Sergei Prokofiev. The program also features the world premiere of Heartland, a double concertino for horn and trombone by David Wilborn, performed by Assistant Professor of Horn Dr. Zach Zooper and guest artist Dr. Nathan Dishman, Associate Professor of Music at Iowa State University. The Butler University Wind Ensemble comprises sixty musicians from across the campus who are committed to the highest level of performance in wind literature spanning multiple historical periods. This program reflects that breadth, extending from Prokofiev’s March, Op. 99 (1937) to Wilborn’s newly composed work, representing the contemporary voice of the ensemble.
